Terms and Conditions
The terms for using Banr’s services.
Last updated on 10 September 2026
1. About these Terms
1.1 These Terms are an agreement between you and Westpay Global Resources Limited (RC 1437462), trading as Banr ("Banr", "we", "us"). They apply when you use the Banr app, the Banr web app and getbanr.com (the "Services").
1.2 By ticking "I have read, understood and agreed to the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy" when you sign up, or by using the Services, you accept these Terms. Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy are part of these Terms.
1.3 Some features or promotions have extra terms shown in the app. If they conflict with these Terms, the extra terms apply to that feature.
2. Banr and our partners
2.1 Banr is a technology company, not a bank, and does not hold a CBN banking licence.
2.2 Your Banr wallet is a deposit account provided by 9 Payment Service Bank Limited ("9PSB"), licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, through our banking-as-a-service partner, Anchor Software Limited.
2.3 Your money is held by 9PSB, not by Banr. Wallet and voucher balances do not earn interest.
2.4 Banr vouchers are not prepaid cards, are not connected to Visa, Mastercard, Verve or any card network, and can only be used on Banr or approved partner channels.
3. Who can use Banr
To open an account, you must:
- be 18 or older
- have a valid Bank Verification Number (BVN) and a Nigerian phone number
- open the account for yourself only (one personal account per person)
- not be barred by law or listed on any sanctions list
4. Your account and verification
4.1 To sign up, you’ll verify your phone number and email with one-time codes, provide your personal details, verify your BVN, take a selfie, and set a passcode and transaction PIN.
4.2 The information you give must be true, complete and current. Use your full legal name as it appears on your documents, and update your details in Profile → Edit details when they change.
5. Keeping your account secure
5.1 Your 6-digit passcode logs you in. Your transaction PIN approves payments. You can also turn on fingerprint or Face ID. Only do this if you are the only person whose biometrics are saved on your phone, because anyone enrolled on your device may be able to access Banr.
5.2 Never share your passcode, PIN, one-time codes or voucher PINs. Banr staff will never ask for them by phone, SMS, email, WhatsApp or social media.
5.3 Tell us immediately if your phone is lost or stolen, if someone may know your details, or if you see a transaction you don’t recognise. Use Profile → Create new dispute or Profile → Contact support. We’ll block your account to prevent further loss.
6. Your wallet
6.1 You can add money by transferring from any bank to your Banr account number, receiving money from other Banr users, redeeming vouchers, or withdrawing referral rewards.
6.2 You can’t spend more than your available balance or go over your tier’s limits. Incoming money that would take you over your maximum balance may be declined or held until you upgrade.
6.3 If money is paid into your wallet by mistake, you must not spend it. We or 9PSB may reverse it, and you must repay any amount you’ve spent.
7. Sending money
7.1 You can send money to another Banr user using their wallet ID or Banr tag, or to any Nigerian bank account.
7.2 You are responsible for the recipient details you enter. Check the account name shown before you confirm. If you send money to the wrong person, we’ll contact the receiving bank to help, but we can’t guarantee you’ll get it back.
7.3 Once you confirm a transfer with your PIN, it usually can’t be cancelled.
7.4 If your wallet is debited but the transfer fails, we’ll reverse the money to your wallet within the timelines set by the CBN. You can check the status in Transaction history.
7.5 Send as anonymous hides your name from the recipient in the Banr app. It does not make the payment anonymous. We keep your details and share them with the receiving bank, 9PSB, regulators and law enforcement where the law requires. Don’t use this feature to harass, threaten or deceive anyone.
7.6 We may hold, delay or decline a transaction to carry out security or legal checks.
9. Vouchers
9.1 A voucher (shown in some screens as a cash card) is an amount you set aside from your wallet, with its own serial number and balance.
9.2 When you create a voucher, the amount leaves your wallet immediately. You’ll set a voucher PIN and can give the voucher a name.
9.3 You can pay for Banr services directly from a voucher, top it up, freeze or unfreeze it, check its balance, or liquidate it to move the remaining balance back to your wallet.
9.4 You can share a voucher by QR code, image, link or SMS, with a redemption PIN. The recipient redeems it into their own Banr wallet by entering the details, scanning the QR code or uploading the image. Recipients need a Banr account but don’t need a bank account.
9.5 Anyone who has a voucher’s serial number and redemption PIN can redeem it. Share them only with the person you mean to pay. We are not responsible for a voucher redeemed with the correct details, unless it happened because of our error. If you think the details have leaked, freeze or liquidate the voucher straight away.
9.6 A redeemed voucher can’t be reversed.
9.7 Vouchers don’t expire unless an expiry date is shown when you create them.
9.8 Vouchers can’t be withdrawn as cash at ATMs, sold for profit or used as a currency. We may block vouchers funded with money from fraud or crime.
10. Airtime, data and bill payments
10.1 You can buy airtime and data on MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile, and pay for electricity, cable TV, internet, transport and tolls, and other bills listed in the app. These services are provided by third-party billers.
10.2 Check the phone number, meter number, smartcard number or package before you confirm. Payments made to wrong details can’t be reversed once the biller has delivered the value.
10.3 Electricity tokens are shown in the app and sent to your email. If you’ve paid but haven’t received your token or service, open a dispute and we’ll follow it up with the biller.
10.4 Billers are responsible for the service itself, such as power supply or a TV subscription. Complaints about service quality should go to the biller.
11. Referral programme
11.1 Share your referral code or invite link. The person you invite must enter your code when they sign up, on the same screen as their phone number. Codes can’t be added later.
11.2 When they complete their first successful transaction within 30 days of signing up, you earn ₦500 in your referral balance and they get ₦200. If they don’t transact within 30 days, the referral expires.
11.3 You can withdraw your referral balance to your wallet at any time. There is no monthly limit on how many rewards you can earn.
11.4 Referrals must be genuine new customers with verified accounts. Self-referrals, duplicate or fake accounts, paying people to sign up, spam and misleading adverts using the Banr name are not allowed. We may cancel or reverse rewards earned this way and suspend the accounts involved.
11.5 We may change or end the programme by giving notice in the app. Rewards already earned will be honoured. The referral programme is available in the Banr app only.
12. Fees
12.1 Any fee is shown in the app before you confirm a transaction. We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice before introducing a new fee or increasing an existing one.
12.2 Government levies and taxes, such as the Electronic Money Transfer Levy, are charged as the law requires.
13. Receipts, statements and alerts
13.1 Every transaction has a receipt you can view and share in the app.
13.2 You can download or email statements for any period, as PDF or Excel, from Profile → Statements & reports.
13.3 We send transaction alerts by in-app notification, email or SMS. You can’t turn them off, because they protect your account. Please review your transactions regularly and tell us about any error as soon as you can.
14. Disputes and complaints
14.1 Report a problem from the transaction’s details screen ("Report transaction") or from Profile → Create new dispute. Choose the dispute type, describe what happened and attach images if you have them. Track progress in Report history.
14.2 We’ll acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within the timelines set by CBN consumer protection rules. When it’s resolved, you can tell us whether you’re satisfied. If you’re not, we’ll review it again.
14.3 If you’re still unhappy, you can escalate to 9PSB and then to the CBN’s Consumer Protection Department. Data protection complaints can go to the NDPC.
16. Prohibited use
You must not use Banr to:
- commit fraud, launder money, finance terrorism or receive the proceeds of crime
- run scams, Ponzi schemes or illegal gambling
- let someone else use your account, or open an account in someone else’s name
- split transactions to get around your limits
- copy, reverse-engineer, scrape or interfere with the Services
- abuse, threaten or harass other users or our staff
We are required by law to report suspicious transactions to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, and we may freeze funds where the law or a court order requires.
17. Suspending or closing your account
17.1 We may suspend, restrict or close your account if you break these Terms, if we suspect fraud, if verification fails, if a regulator, court or 9PSB requires it, or if your account puts others at risk. We’ll tell you why where the law allows.
17.2 Deleting your account. Go to Profile → Delete account, tell us why you’re leaving and confirm. Before you do, withdraw your wallet balance, liquidate your vouchers, withdraw your referral balance and let any open disputes finish. Your account will be closed within 7 days. You can cancel during that time by contacting support.
17.3 After closure, you can no longer access your account, but we keep records for as long as the law requires (see our Privacy Policy).
17.4 If any money remains after closure, we’ll pay it to a verified bank account in your name.
17.5 The Banr agent programme ("Become an agent") is covered by a separate agent agreement. Applying doesn’t guarantee approval.
18. Service availability
We aim to keep Banr available at all times, but the Services may be interrupted by maintenance or by issues with networks, partner banks, payment systems or billers. We’re not responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control. We may change or remove features, and we’ll give you notice of any change that affects you significantly.
19. Intellectual property
The Banr app, name, logo, designs and content belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app for its intended purpose. You must not copy, modify or resell any part of it.
20. Our liability
20.1 Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for fraud, gross negligence or anything else the law does not allow us to limit, or your rights under Nigerian consumer protection law.
20.2 Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, losses caused by incorrect details you entered, losses caused by your breach of these Terms, or events outside our reasonable control. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount of the transaction involved plus any fees you paid for it.
21. Changes to these Terms
We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice in the app or by email before any significant change takes effect. If you don’t agree, you can close your account at no cost before the change applies. If you keep using Banr after that, you accept the updated Terms.
22. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If we have a dispute, we’ll first try to resolve it through our complaints process, then through mediation at the Lagos Multi-Door Courthouse. If that fails, the courts of Lagos State will decide. This doesn’t affect your right to complain to a regulator.
